After Mr. Inuyama graduated from college, he started working for a company and moved into an apartment. He didn't have much money so he could buy only the most necessary items for his apartment. The first thing he bought was a futon set. Mr. Inuyama was very busy every day at his office so he didn't have much time for house cleaning and he didn't even have enough time to hang his futon out to air. One fine Sunday, about two months after Mr. Inuyama began his new life, he decided to hang out hisfuton set to air. His apartment was on the second floor of an old wooden building and there was no place to hang his fulon. He remembered that there was an elementary school near his apartment, so he carried the two heavy futons to the elementary school and hung them on the fence of the school. Mr. Inuyama went out to see a movie and after the movie was over, it began to rain. Mr. Inuyama was very worried that his futon set would be all wet. He rushed back to the elementary school to get his futon set. He was shocked to find his set gone. Mr. Inuyama rushed to the police box near his apartment and told the policeman that someone had stolen his futon set. The policeman thought that a thief had entered Mr. Inuyama's apartment but Mr. Inuyama explained that he had hung his futon set on the fence of the elementary school. The policeman laughed and said that most likely a neighbor living near the elementary school had taken in his futon. Mr. Inuyama went back to the elementary school and rang the doorbell of the house nearest the elementary school. The members of the family had kindly taken the futon set in. Mr. Inuyama was relieved to find his futon set and was grateful to the family for having taken it in. About two months later, Mr. Inuyama decided to hang out his futon set again. He didn't want to bother the family near the elementary school again, so he chose a very fine day when there was absolutely no possibility of rain. He hung his futon set in a different place near his apartment and went out again. However, against all expectations, it began to rain and Mr. Inuyama rushed home to get his futon set in before it got too wet. When he got to the place where he had hung out his futon set, it was not there. He went to the nearest house and rang the door bell. He asked the family if they had seen a futon set hanging out and they said that they had taken it in when it had started to rain. Mr. Inuyama was very grateful for such kind neighbors and thanked them heartily. Three months later, Mr Inuyama decided to hang his futon set out again and chose a still different place close to his apartment. Sure that it wouldn't rain, Mr. Inuyama went out However, while he was out. it began to rain heavily. This time, however, Mr Inuyama thought that some kind neighbor would take the futon set in for him, so he didn't worry. When Mr. Inuyama got to the place where he had hung out his futon set. he was very surprised to see his futon set soaking wet in the rain. Mr Inuyama realized that some neighbors are kind and some are not. He felt that he had to be very appreciative of those neighbors who are kind and that he should not take them for granted.
