Mr. Umezawa had a date with a beautiful girl one February afternoon. It was very cold so he wore his heavy woolen overcoat with big wooden buttons. They agreed to meet on the platform of Harajuku station. Before his date, Mr. Umezawa had some business to attend to near Yoyogi and so when he got to Yoyogi station, he was 15 minutes late. He ran up the stairs, saw the train doors about to close, so he ran as fast as he could and jumped onto the train, just as the train doors were closing. Unfortunately, the train doors closed before Mr. Umezawa was completely inside the train, so his coat buttons got caught in the doors. Mr. Umezawa was facing the doors, unable to move because his coat buttons were firmly between the two doors. He pulled and pulled with all his might, but he could not loosen himself from the doors. Soon the train was at Harajuku station so Mr. Umezawa thought that the doors would open and he could meet his date. Unfortunately the doors of the train opened on the opposite side so Mr. Umezawa could not get off the train. As the train pulled out of Harajuku station, Mr. Umezawa could see his date waiting impatiently on the platform of the station. Mr. Umezawa thought that surely at the next station, Shibuya, the doors would open on his side. They didn't, so Mr. Umezawa decided to wait for the next station, Ebisu, but unfortunately the doors again did not open on his side at Ebisu station. Poor Mr. Umezawa. The same thing happened at Meguro, Gotanda and Osaki. At Osaki station, the train stopped for a few minutes because it was ahead of schedule. The train got to Shinagawa station but again the doors on Mr. Umezawa's side did not open. They finally opened at Tamachi station. Mr. Umezawa ran to the Yamanote line going in the opposite direction and headed back to Harajuku station, but when he got there, almost one hour had passed since the time that he and his date had agreed on and of course she was not there. Mr. Umezawa was very sad and so gave up and got back on the train to go to Shinjuku. As he got on the train, the words coming over the loudspeaker had special meaning for him, "Be careful of the closing doors." (400 words)
